Aftercare
Cleaning
Always follow the instructions that your piercer gives you.
Here's how to clean your ears in the shower or bath:
Get your soap or cleaner and squirt some on your finger.
Rub it onto your ears and earrings gently, and then rinse.
If you're not in the shower, clean them the same way but rinse with a washcloth or in the sink.
Here are some other things to keep in mind:
I wouldn't change your earrings until after about six to eight weeks so your ears can finish healing. Also, to be safe, keep earrings in your ears a full year after piercing so the holes don't close up.
In addition, you might need hypoallergenic earrings because some people have sensitive ears (I did!).
Furthermore, wait to go swimming until 2-4 weeks after you get your ears pierced (you can get in the water, but be careful not to get your ears wet). For more info, read Rowen's blog page regarding swimming with new piercings.
What happens if your ears get infected?
Signs of an ear infection:
Hurt when you touch your ear/earring
Are red
Have puss coming out of the pierced hole
Are bleeding
Here's what you do to stop it:
Mix distilled water and sea salt in a cup and soak the ear for 10 minutes
Once you have finished soaking, put lavender essential oil on a cotton swab and rub on your ear.
Repeat the process for ten days or until your ear stops hurting or the puss is gone.
Try not to bump your ears against anything!
